When charitable organizations come together to get a job done, wonderful friendships are forged while doing good deeds. A recent service project involving members from the Northwest Austin Rotary Club pitching in to help Leander-based Hill Country Community Ministries (HCCM) replaced a badly damaged office door at no cost. How many Rotarians does it take to replace a damaged door? The answer is four. And it was the perfect way for Fowler Law Firm attorney Diane Byrnes to make new friends and get acclimated as a new Rotary Club member.
One of the most robust Rotary Clubs in Central Texas, or for that matter anywhere, is Rotary Club of Northwest Austin. The award-winning generosity of its members who, as a club, give to many local and international 501(c)3 charitable corporations with diverse missions is widely recognized as a standard against which other Rotary Clubs are judged.

HCCM focuses on ensuring its funds are utilized to help people in the community who need it most. The organization is identifying those who don’t meet the traditional definition of poverty, but who are trying to support a family, working nonstop often at several jobs – single parents trying to support both elderly parents and minor children, living at the edge of their income. Many of these families are just one life crisis away from economic distress. A critical illness, car wreck or ER visit, or the sudden death of a family member can wipe out any chance of the family sustaining even basic needs.
