Michael S. Simpson

Michael S. Simpson is considered by many to be one of the preeminent Texas commercial and construction trial lawyers in central Texas.  During his thirty year career as a Texas attorney, he has been a partner with some of the most prominent law firms in Texas.  Mike has now joined The Fowler Law Firm where his skills in commercial litigation and construction will be put to good use.

The son of two career educators, Mike attended public schools from East Texas to West Texas. Mike’s mother was a classroom teacher, and later a school librarian, while his father taught and coached high school and college teams across Texas and in Arkansas. Initially, Mike chose the same career path, earning both an undergraduate degree with a double major in English and Physical Education and a minor in Education, and a Masters in Education and English from Austin College in Sherman, where he also played basketball.  Mike began his teaching and coaching career in Midlothian ISD, just south of Dallas.  He then taught and coached in the Panhandle town of Hereford while also refereeing numerous high school and college basketball games throughout Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico; including the Texas UIL state championships and several major and minor college conferences.  Mike continued his passion for officiating at the high school and college levels until his own son began playing basketball and baseball at Austin High.  He then took his place on the sidelines with the rest of the fans to “help” all the referees call the games more accurately.

Mike graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1981, and again distinguished himself as Comments Editor of the Texas Tech Law Review, graduating cum laude and earning Order of the Coif honors. During the last thirty years, Mr. Simpson has represented owners, general contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and trade subcontractors in both commercial and residential construction and mold cases throughout the state of Texas.  He has earned multi-million dollar defense judgments on behalf of his clients, and has represented school districts and private owners in cases involving defective construction. In addition to construction litigation, Mike has defended multi-million dollar cases involving wrongful death, national and statewide toxic torts, product liability, and insurance defense, coverage and bad faith.

Mike is a 20-year AV rated attorney, listed in the Martindale-Hubbell Registry of Preeminent Lawyers.  Over the years, Mike has been a member of Defense Research Institute, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, various state and local bar groups, a public speaker and co-author and presenter of legal papers on a broad array of commercial litigation and construction topics.

He and his wife Sara, a former public school librarian, have been benefactors to a number of young adult literacy and student organizations. They have two children, Talmadge, a recent law school graduate living and working in Atlanta, Georgia, and Callie, a graphic designer for an Austin advertising agency.  We are proud to have Mike as a member of The Fowler Law Firm family.
