NICHOLAS CARPENTER MILLER

Nicholas C. Miller

Originally from West Texas, Mr. Miller headed east to attend college at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. He graduated in 2004 and came away with a BA in Economics, a concentration in classics and the young lady that would become his wife three years later.

Mr. Miller began his career at the House of Representatives, working in the office of State Representative George "Buddy" West, eventually becoming the Chief Clerk of Chairman West's committee, the House Committee on Energy Resources, which included under its purview the Oilfield Cleanup Advisory Committee. Shortly after a political shakeup cost Representative West his committee in early 2007, Nicholas teamed up with Representative Sid Miller in the Agriculture and Livestock Committee. In these roles, he saw firsthand the impact that legislation and its interpretation can have on the people and resources of Texas, a driving force behind his decision to pursue a law degree two years later.

Mr. Miller began his studies at the University of Texas School of Law in the fall of 2007. He joined the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law that spring as a staff editor and was later named an associate editor focusing on recent developments in the industry. During the summer after his first year in law school, Mr. Miller was selected to intern for both the Honorable Judge Lee Yeakel at the Western District Court of Texas and Justice Harriet O'Neill (retired) at the Texas Supreme Court. After his second year, Nicholas held two summer clerkships in Austin at Clark, Thomas & Winters and Lloyd Gosselink Rochelle & Townsend, where he provided work for a range of practice groups, including energy regulation, oil and gas law, environmental regulation, water law, medical product liability, utilities, employment law, labor law, general litigation, and administrative law. The fall of his third year, Nicholas studied in London through an exchange program at Queen Mary University School of Law, focusing on European environmental issues, natural resources law, comparative free speech and international human rights.

Mr. Miller hails from Amarillo, where he grew up working on his family's ranch and Bushland ISD in the summers. He enjoys wing shooting, snow skiing and traveling. He is married to Lisa Mobley Miller of Austin and they welcomed their first child, Eliza Louise Miller, to the world on May 20, 2011.
