J. Malcolm Harris is one of Austin 's most distinguished attorneys, with extensive expertise and accomplishments in business litigation, real estate litigation, construction litigation, professional liability litigation and health care law. Since becoming a member of the Texas Bar in 1961, Mr. Harris has achieved exceptional success as a trial attorney and earned an impeccable reputation among his peers. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Law.

Mr. Harris was academically among the highest ranking students at the University of Texas School of Law. He was selected early for the editorial board of the Texas Law Review and served both as Casenote Editor and Comment Editor of the Review. He also became a law school Quizmaster and was selected as the Outstanding Midlaw Student in 1959. He earned numerous academic honors including Phi Delta Phi, Chancellors, and Order of the Coif. He graduated with honors in 1961.

Mr. Harris began his legal career in El Paso, where he became a partner in the prestigious law firm of Grambling, Mounce, Sims, Galatzan & Harris and served as President of the El Paso Bar Association in 1980-1981. He served as defense counsel for multiple large corporations and insurors. He also served as general counsel to Providence Memorial Hospital, the largest non-governmental hospital in El Paso, and handled all of its litigation and claims for more than twenty years. In addition to his long courtroom experience, Mr. Harris authored Understanding Healthcare Law, A Guide for Healthcare Professionals, a book which has been widely praised and distributed both in Texas and nationally.

An avid sailor, Mr. Harris is a certified scuba diver and the proud owner and skipper of the sailing vessel, Lai Sien, whose home port is in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. Mr. Harris has spent several years sailing in the Sea of Cortez with his wife, Teresa Villasenor Harris, who also serves as an attorney with The Fowler Law Firm.
